Bleed and safe area
If a bookmark will be printed by a print shop and cut on a guillotine, they will usually ask for ⅛ inch (3 mm) of bleed: the background carries on past the trim line on every side. A 2×6 bookmark with bleed is 2¼ × 6¼ inches, or 675 × 1,875 pixels at 300 DPI. Keep text at least ⅛ inch inside the trim line so a slightly off cut doesn't clip it. For bookmarks printed at home and cut with scissors, bleed isn't needed.
How many bookmarks fit on one sheet
Turn US Letter sideways (11 × 8.5 inches) and four 2×6 bookmarks fit in a row with half an inch between them and a margin all round, which is the sheet this tool makes. A4 sideways (297 × 210 mm) fits four as well. Print at 100% ("actual size"), not "fit to page", or the bookmarks come out smaller.
Selling printable bookmarks
Buyers print at home, so include the single bookmark files and a ready-to-print sheet. A 2×6 file at 600 × 1,800 pixels is small; it stays far under Etsy's 20 MB limit per file.
